Summer!

Summer is finally here and you love it.  It took a while to arrive and there was a point when you really, really wanted to go out but it was just too cold.  Lots has happened in the last two months.

Yipao, Uncle Johnny, Anthony and Meibo came to visit for a few weeks in May. You had a lot of fun with everyone here.  We went to the Minnesota Zoo, the Mall of America (a few times), ate out quite a bit and just played at home.  Your new playset went in the backyard as well.  Sometimes you like to play on it, mainly when we have friends over.

Now that the weather is nice, we have lots of outdoor activities on our nights and weekends.  In the evenings, there’s usually a walk to the park with Baba.  On the weekends, we try and visit new places.  You’ve been to a couple of fairs, como zoo / como town a few times, farmers market, 4th of July parade and fireworks and the swim pond.

We’ve also started up swim classes again.  You LOVE swim classes with the rubber duckies, noodles and turtle pads.  It’s once a week on Sunday afternoons.

A few weeks ago, we realized you have a molar coming in – fever, runny nose, cranky and lots of drooling.  I think it’s in now b/c you’re a happy toddler again! It took about a week and I was beginning to think you started your ‘terrible 2’s’ because you were a bit cranky which is rare!

There’s always something fresh and new on a daily basis that brings smiles and joy to Baba and I.  Here are a few highlights and key milestones:

  • Word explosion – at the end of April, you went through a sentence explosion.  But as of today, you can speak in full sentences, prepositions and everything!
    • 4/25 – Yoda = deodorant
    • 5/9 – You started to say “yes”.  Right now, you don’t really say a lot of “yes” but you like to say “ok?!” which sounds really cute.
    • 5/10 – Weather is slowly getting warmer and the ants are coming in the house.  You like to say “Ju gets the ma-ee” but we thought you said, “Ju gets the money”, since we pay her weekly.
    • 5/11 – zeebo = Gazebo.  You’re now calling it gazebo.
    • 5/16 – counting from 1-10 in Chinese, 1-20 in English
    • 5/23 – Stroder = stroller
    • July – Rhinocerous
    • Animance = Ambulance
  • Sentence explosion – now that you’re speaking in full sentences, it’s very cute what comes out of your mouth
    • Pants are falling (in Chinese)  Coo tze dow lah
    • What’s happening?
    • What is that?
    • That’s kind of really hard!
    • Another day
    • Ambulance helps people
    • Fully able to sing ABC’s
  • May 8th – you have a sweet tooth just like your mommy and daddy.  One night, you said it was time for cupcakes and went behind the couch and brought out a container of cupcakes!  It was hilarious b/c we had no idea where you stashed the treats.
  • May 10th – you started to move forward in your cozy coupe
  • May 15th – love to pretend play by putting your duplos in the oven, then bring them out with an oven glove and saying “don’t touch, hot!”
  • June 8th – you figured out how to turn on the TV
  • June 28th – on one of your cranky molar days, I played Dora on the iPad.  Since then, you’ve been OBSESSED with Dora!  You are glued to the iPad for 2-3 episodes back to back.  It’s really fun to watch as you interact and talk to Dora.  You’re Spanish is also increasing.  We took you back to MOA this weekend and you noticed all the Dora, Boots, Diego and Swipper characters.  It was like a whole new adventure.

Favorite foods are:  cakes, brownies, cupcakes, smarties, milano’s, goldfish, gummies, chips, cheese balls, raw red onions, stir fry greens, ribs, chicken nuggets, French fries, rice (all varieties), spaghetti, cantaloupe, bananas, apples, popsicles, juice, cold water.

Every week, you skpe with Uncle Johnny and Yipao.  You still LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fire trucks.  We just purchased a fire fighter rain coat for you.

Potty training is slowing coming along.  You do sit on the potty pot w/o your diaper now and realize what you need to do.  Actually doing it hasn’t happened yet.

You continue to have a sparkling personality, flirty smile, belly laughs and kind hearted.  You like to share, love to read and enjoy the company of everyone around you.

You bring smiles, laughs and joy to Mommy and Daddy every day.  You are full of energy, inquisitive, happy, healthy and intelligent.  I love you Benjamin!!
